Ionic is a free-to-use framework that allows you to build mobile apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone, all from one codebase. In other words, Ionic is a tool for cross-platform mobile development. Today, Ionic is one of the world's most popular cross-platform mobile development technology stack. Ionic is backed by a vibrant community of more than 5M developers in over 200 countries, supporting one of the most popular open source app platforms in the world.

if you want to ship your app to multiple platforms, you would have to rewrite the same functionality in three different languages! Developing apps this way not only requires learning a lot of different languages and tools, but it also means you end up re-coding the same logic for two or three different programming languages and mobile platforms. And the same duplication of effort is required when you need to make any changes. Developing apps natively takes a lot of time, money and skill. So instead of doing this, we would like to write a single code that works for all three platforms using Ionic.

If a developer is familiar with CSS, HTML or JavaScript frameworks then learning and developing apps using Ionic framework becomes easier. It is easier for development companies to switch to Ionic.

The ionic framework utilizes Cordova plugins to help designers in accessing different components. Ionic uses Cordova plugin to access features like Camera, GPS, Flashlight and others.

Themes and components of Ionic are highly customizable. The ionic platform allows components to adapt the platform on which application is running.

Using Ionic with native mobile app code in PhoneGap (Apache Cordova) allows for higher performance compared to hybrid applications. AngularJS allows Ionic to rely on native hardware acceleration.

Ionic Framework is focused on the front end user experience, or UI interaction of an app (controls, interactions, gestures, animations). It’s easy to learn and integrates nicely with other libraries or frameworks, such as Angular, or can be used standalone without a frontend framework using a simple script include.

Apache Cordova is an open source mobile application development framework that transforms standard HTML/CSS/JS into full-fledged native apps. It provides a: JavaScript API for accessing native device functionality, such as the camera or accelerometer. Cordova contains the necessary build tools for packaging web apps for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.

Decorators are expressions that return a function. They allow you to take an existing function and extend its behavior. With TypeScript, you can also decorate classes and parameters. When you decorate a class, you are wrapping and extending the behavior of its constructor. In other words, the decorator will add some functionality when the constructor is called and will then return the original constructor.

The Ionic Framework is a complete open-source SDK for hybrid mobile app development. Built on top of Angular.js and Apache Cordova, Ionic provides tools and services for developing hybrid mobile apps using Web technologies like CSS, HTML5, and Sass. Apps can be built with these Web technologies and then distributed through native app stores to be installed on devices by leveraging Cordova.

Ionicons is an open-source icon set used and created by Ionic. It includes 1:1 iOS and Material Design icons, as well as commonly used social/application icons. Ionicons is included by default in Ionic distributions, but they can also be used in any project.

  • TOAST BUTTONSToasts show subtle messages to the user, usually in response to feedback or as notifications and typically go away on their own after a short time. Previously, however, you couldn’t do a whole lot with toasts but display some info and let the user dismiss it. In 4.3, you can now set buttons to add additional functionality to toasts.
  • TOAST HEADERS Toast messages can now have headers as well.
  • BUG FIXES The slider component received some nice animation improvements and fixes in this release as well. We exposed animation events that can be passed in through the slide options to provide custom animations when swiping through the swiper component. See the Slides documentation for more details.
